When TV presenter Sonia Kruger joined Channel Seven there was only one thing she was disappointed about.
“I was kind of sad about stepping away from The Voice,” she told 96five’s Ken & Nicky. “It’s one of the best shows on TV and it’s the hottest ticket in town; to work with people like Keith Urban and Guy Sebastian, it just doesn’t get any better.”

Sonia said that this year with a move to Channel Seven, the show has returned to its roots in a way.
“We’ve gone back to uncovering those real diamonds in the rough, people like our ‘Lawnmower Man’, Mick Harrington, who mows lawns during the day but sings like a rock star!
“He has these two gorgeous little girls, and every time he performs I have to try and keep it together because they love their daddy so much and they’re so proud of him; it gives me goosebumps.”
With Sonia’s background as a dancer (not only was she cast as Tina Sparkle in Baz Luhrmann’s award winning ‘Strictly Ballroom’, she also worked as a ballroom advisor on the film), she said it’s her love of music that is at the heart of her passion for the show.
“I just love that escapism into music and how it can transport you to other places. There’s a song in The Voice promos by Keane called ‘Somewhere Only We Know‘ and it’s such a beautiful song. You can forget about the fact that we’re in this pandemic and life for many people is so tough. We really need that escapism.”
The new look series of The Voice premieres Sunday August 8 at 7pm on Seven, with host Sonia Kruger being joined by hosts Keith Urban, Rita Ora, Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy.
