Vacuum cleaners are getting a whole lot more technical, but extra features comes at a cost.
Where would we be without vacuum cleaners? The marvellous creation, able to clean up any spill in seconds, is a household staple, and we’ve seen some changes over the years.
From bagless to stick vacuums, and popular robot cleaners like the Roomba, the cleaner has become more technical over time. But this appears to be just the beginning of the vacuum cleaner revolution, as tech expert Geoff Quattromani from the Technology Uncorked podcast explained.
“When most people think about robot vacuum cleaners, it’s something that runs around the house, bumps into all of your furniture, and only vacuums,” Geoff said.
“But now, they’ve gotten to a point where they don’t bump into the furniture, they recognise a pair of shoes that’s been left on the floor and avoid them. And, they don’t just vacuum anymore. They can now mop, and they can spray air freshener around the house as it does the job.”
Before you throw away your mop and your can of air freshener, be warned that these extra features come at an extra cost.
Robot vacuums range from $400 to $1200, and those that mop start at the $800 price point.
Geoff said that while this price is comparable to decent stick vacuums, the real difference is that the robot vacuums are able to clean while you’re out at work, buying you back some time.
