Santa doesn’t have to be the only one that can benefit from a plate full of cookies this Christmas. If you are looking for a fun, cheap party that doesn’t involve planning a big meal, maybe consider a Cookie Exchange party this year.
Maybe you have never heard of a Cookie Exchange, well, you are not alone. Recently we were discussing this on-air with listeners from all around Brisbane and I certainly didn’t realise that many people had no idea what it was – and felt we needed to educate Ken and Steve of this fun gathering.
A cookie exchange party is where friends come together to reflect about the year that has been and a time to celebrate the Christmas season. Each person bakes a one variety of biscuit. The idea of the party is that everyone goes home with many different varieties of home baked biscuits that they in turn can share with their friends and family.
Everyone loves Christmas biscuits this time of year, and while many people love baking different varieties, for some people there simply isn’t enough time to devote to the planning, shopping, baking and cleaning up. This is a perfect way to get your cookies and eat them too!
Every cookie exchange party can be customised and looks slightly different according to the host. One of our listeners Sue, shared that her friends come together and bake traditional biscuits from Africa, Scandinavia and America to celebrate their homelands. Terry said she has been doing the cookie exchange program for over 15 years. “Its an opportunity to reach out to someone who is doing it tough within our church. Maybe its a women who has lost her baby or has had a difficult season with her marriage. I usually invite six friends and our special guest, we have a lovely evening with Christmas supper or afternoon tea and then when we do our exchange. Our special guest, who has had a difficult time, they get to take home this gift of six lots of biscuits.”
