The fog that enveloped Brisbane and Ipswich did nothing to dampen the spirits of hundreds of students, parents and teachers at Amberley District State School. Even though it was still dark there were some very committed students on the school oval with Ken, Nicky & Steve from 6am!

It was a fantastic morning and great to hear about this wonderful school – who despite their phenomenal new location and facility – has a 150 year heritage in the area. Being the last day of term there was a great spirit of anticipation in the air as parents, students, teachers and the wider community enjoyed the range of activities on offer including the Scouts tennis ball catapults, the Girl Guide chatterboxes and a huge jumping castle.

Well done to all of the students who had their 15 seconds of fame reading the weather and the teachers who bravely answered all of Ken, Nicky & Steve’s questions – we were so impressed at everyone’s ease in front of the microphone.

Another highlight was the Speech Choir – instead of the traditional ‘choral’ choir the school’s Speech Choir performed a poem about a Pufferfish and it certainly was a highlight of the morning – along with the race between ‘Flash’ the schools mascot and 96five’s ‘Duke the DJ Dog’. Duke was a little too competitive and edged out ‘Flash’s’ home crowd advantage. We’ll have to work on Duke’s desire to win every race!

Thanks so much Amberley District State School for having us!
