Queensland Child Protection Week is dedicated to promoting the value of children and focusing attention on the issues of child abuse and neglect.

The annual Queensland Child Protection Awards (QCPA) provides an opportunity to publicly acknowledge the efforts of Queenslanders who are making a difference.

The Awards will be presented at the launch of Queensland Child Protection Week on Thursday 1 September 2022 to those have made a significant contribution to our community to prevent child harm and neglect.

96five’s Ken and Nicky spoke to Georgina Livingstone from Queensland Child Protection Week about the 36th anniversary of the QCPW awards.

“Often when we talk about child protection or we hear it in the media it’s when unfortunately, something tragic has occurred but with Child Protection Week, we get to celebrate the good news.

“It’s an opportunity for community members to either nominate themselves or a friend or a colleague or someone that they know who might be an unsung hero.

“My favourite one is the volunteer awards. They don’t do it for money, they don’t do it for recognition”

There are 11 categories including Media and Communications, Youth Participation and the ‘Our Children, Our Future’ award. There are also a number of grants available ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 27 May 2022 and can be made via the Child Protection Week website.
