Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has said that masks will no longer be required in most settings from 6pm on Friday 4 March.

She made the announcement while addressing the Queensland Parliament this morning.

“You won’t need masks at work, or in school or at the shops.  Staff and patrons won’t be required to wear them in cafes, pubs and restaurants.

“Mr Speaker, smiles are back, we can put our masks away.”

The Premier said that if you are vulnerable and want to keep wearing a mask for your own health requirements you can.

Masks will however still be required in the following places:

  • Public Transport
  • Hospitals
  • Disability and Aged Care
  • Prisons
  • Airports and whilst on an aircraft

The Premier also said that density limits for weddings, funerals and private residences would be scrapped, along with limits in food courts, hairdressers, gyms and universities.

School life will also return to some semblance of normality with restrictions around school visitor numbers, assemblies and excursions to lift as well.

Premier Palaszczuk told Parliament that Queensland has come through the pandemic in a much better state than many other jurisdictions around the world.

“When the story of this pandemic is written, it will show that no-one completely escaped the impacts of COVID.  But it will show that some places fared better than most, and one of those places is right here in Queensland.

“The reason is clear; the vast majority of our state was vaccinated before COVID arrived.  The credit for this belongs to every single Queenslander, but I’m proud that our government did everything possible to ensure our people were protected.”
