Local worship leader and songwriter Nathan Fawcett will launch his new album ‘Rain Down’ this Sunday night.
The album has been over a year in the making, with the bulk of the album recorded live at the North Lakes State College Theatre just prior to the 2020 COVID shutdown.
The record features soaring melodies, sections of improvised free worship and Nathan’s gritty, powerful vocals. Bear Rineheart of NEEDTOBREATHE is an obvious comparison, with both artists drawing on their Christian upbringing to shape their art.
Nathan first discovered his love of worship music as a child in Papua New Guinea, where his parents served as missionaries.
“There were no bells or whistles, it was just about grabbing an out of tune guitar and going for it!
“I saw something in worship there where people didn’t care about a performance. I got caught into that and what matters is the connection to God through worship.”
On this record Nathan and his band have thrown out the rule book, with Nathan telling 96five’s Tim Bain that they went into the recording with open minds and open hearts.
“We would leave space and it was all about getting back to the heart of worship.”
“A lot of these free worship parts on the album were spontaneous where the music would just rise and rise, and it was something fresh and new that people would just catch hold of.”
“I love songs that are written about encountering God and that’s what this album is all about.”
Nathan and his band will be launching the new album ‘Rain Down’ this Sunday evening from 5pm at Fire Church at Alexandra Headland.
Musician and speaker Daniel Hagen will also take part in the launch.
The launch is a free event but due to COVID protocols you will need to register here.
There will also be a cafe running from 4pm so come along early and grab a coffee!
Rain Down will be available from this weekend on all major streaming platforms.
