After opening weekend, and previews this past Mother’s Day, John Farnham: Finding the Voice will become the biggest theatrical Australian Music documentary today, taking in excess of $1.15 million at the Box Office.
The film opened in cinemas nationally on May 18 and has wowed audiences and critics alike.
The documentary tells the untold story of an Australian music icon. In this first authorised feature documentary, the film follows Farnham’s life from the quiet suburbs of Melbourne to ‘60s pop fame, through incredible highs and lows, and ultimately to record-breaking success as ‘Australia’s Voice’.
John Farnham was 38 years old when Whispering Jack was released. Nobody ever questioned that Farnham could sing — but the challenge to find his artistic voice and become Australia’s most trusted and beloved performer took half a lifetime.

At the heart of documentary is the story of Glenn Wheatley, Farnham’s long time friend and manager, and his unwavering belief in John and his musical talent.
Wheatley mortgaged his house to raise $150,000 and finance the recording of Whispering Jack, the album that would relaunch John Farnham’s career, and subsequently become (still) the highest selling Australian album of all time.
Whispering Jack has been certified platinum 24 times, and this powerful documentary tracks the personal and public journey that has made Farnham Australia’s greatest and most beloved musical artist.
John Farnham: Finding the Voice features appearances from John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, Jimmy Barnes, Celine Dion, Robbie Williams, Daryl Braithwaite, Richard Marx, Glenn Wheatley, Gaynor Wheatley, David Hirschfelder, James Farnham, Robert Farnham, Jill Farnham and Paul Dainty.
