Over 10,000 people from around Lismore signed up for the free tickets and went along to enjoy the star-studded Aussie line up at the Lismore Showgrounds.
Lismore’s locals enjoyed the musical stylings of Daryl Braithwaite, Paul Kelly and Dan Kelly, The Buckleys, Brisbane band Sheppard, Darlinghurst, Lime Cordiale, Jon Stevens and Lismore’s own Grinspoon.
Lismore Mayor Steve Krieg told the ABC that Lismore is still facing significant challenges and that One From the Heart is an opportunity to relax, listen to amazing music and take your mind off things.
“It’s really a thank you to the people of Lismore for everything that they’ve had to put up with, everything that we’ve got to put up with in the future as well.” Mr Krieg said.
Music promoter Michael Chugg wanted to help pull together a free concert for the community after seeing the devastation from the recent floods.
“To do a line-up like that at a normal concert would cost $600,000 to $700,000 just for the bands alone,” Mr Chugg told the ABC.
“So to get those bands all working for nothing basically, just the cost of getting here, is really rewarding and shows how generous the Australian music industry can be.”
Hailing from Lismore, Aussie band Grinspoon were thrilled to be able to give back to their hometown.
“Hopefully it can go some way to repairing some of that mental and physical damage that’s been done during this time,” Grinspoon guitarist Pat Davern told the ABC.
“We went and had a look at the house Phil and I used to live in when we wrote all those Grinspoon songs and that went under. It was supposed to be flood-proof.”
Despite the rain, Lismore locals came out in droves to relax and enjoy the music after a difficult season.
