But as I get older (and wiser) I realise the true impact (or influence) she had on my life was the unnoticed or immeasurable activities. Things like the security that comes from knowing mum was always there, the encouraging words, putting on band aids on all childhood bruises and scrapes. Many of these things I took for granted at the time but with the gift of hindsight I realise these are the things that influenced me into being the man I am today.
They shaped the values that now I as a dad are instilling into my kids. So the influence my mum had on me now becomes the legacy that gets passed onto the next generation and beyond. That is a brilliant gift to pass down and enough of a reason to say thanks to my mum this Mothers Day.
