Even though he is still musically illiterate, the former apprentice spray painter and truck driver is celebrating 32 years of still being ‘on the road’, loving singing, people and serving God.

“Music is like farming. You have your good years and you have your drought years. But you always plant for the next season.”

Steve’s compassion and advocacy for small communities and towns across the Australian landscape has its genesis in Papua New Guinea. As the child of a missionary, Steve was captivated by the positive influences visitors would have on the local indigenous population.

Lifting people’s spirits and encouraging them became – and remains – the foundation of his music.

In early May, at the national Christian Media Arts Australia (CMAA) convention on the Gold Coast, Steve Grace and long-time friend and colleague Geoff Bentley were recipients of the Legacy Award.

The honour recognises achievements by an individual or individuals who, during their lifetime, have made an outstanding contribution as Christian leaders in the fields of media and/or the arts.

At a recent dinner on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, 96five’s Alex Milne enjoyed hearing even more stories from Australia’s international award-winning Country Gospel artist with twenty albums and a million miles of concert tours behind him. Listen to the full interview above.
