When Taylor Swift was spotted at a Chiefs game in September… sales on Kelce jerseys surged by 400%.
But more than this, at the game, Taylor was seen eating chicken dipped into two sauces – ketchup, and something white, which one fan called “seemingly ranch”.
A viral photo of this moment sparked a flurry of retweets and memes, even prompting sauce brands to launch products labelled “seemingly ranch”. Sales went through the roof.
Even the Empire State Building lit up in red and white, in her honour.
This is the Taylor Swift Effect.
Anything linked to Taylor surges in value.
In the same way, in Jesus, Christians enjoy the Jesus Effect, where Jesus grants us infinite value.
Jesus doesn’t just wear our jersey. He becomes one of us.
But he’ll pass on the ketchup and “seemingly ranch”. He’s already sweet enough.
For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 1 Peter 1:18-19
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 Peter 3:1
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. John 15:13-16
