Listen: Pastor Matt Prater speaks with Alex Milne about this year’s Battle Cry prayer gathering.

June 17 2019 saw the first Battle Cry prayer event take place at Suncorp Stadium, which saw over 700 Christians from 20 Brisbane churches joining together in prayer for the city.

Following a hiatus in 2020 the event returns to Suncorp Stadium on Monday June 14, with a prayer walk on Caxton Street beginning at 5pm, followed by the main event at 6:30pm.

Suncorp Stadium sits on Lang Park, which was named after Rev. John Dunmore Lang who mobilised a missionary movement for Australia & the Pacific Islands in the 1830’s.

Pastor Matt Prater from New Hope Church in Kelvin Grove told 96five’s Alex Milne that it was an opportunity for all Christians to lead the city in prayer.

“A lot of the churches around the inner city are involved, but it doesn’t matter where you’re based – anyone can come.

“Last time we did this it was a real multicultural event with people of all different nationalities joining together – it was a beautiful glimpse of heaven!”
