Lifeline Bookfest is back in Brisbane with over 1.2 million books up for grabs!

The Lifeline Bookfest is the biggest fundraising event for Lifeline and runs from January 14-22 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in South Bank.

96five’s Arthur Muhl caught up with Angela Clark, Regional Business Manager for Lifeline to learn about the first Bookfest of 2023 in Brisbane.

“It’s a very large event, it goes over 2 halls of the Convention Centre with 4km’s of trestle tables” said Angela.

“25 semi-trailer loads of books is what it took to fill up the event and thousands and thousands of volunteers have helped us achieve that”.

“The funds go back to support our suicide and crisis support services which are much needed particularly around this time of the year.”

Feeling overwhelmed at the thought of 1.2 million books to choose from? Angela recommends starting in their high-quality rare reads section.

“If you’ve got a real love of a particular genre or product, I’d head there first and then wander through the other sections of the Bookfest” Angela recommends.

“We have our hall where everything is great value, everything is $2.50. We have our other hall which is high quality with books starting from as low as $5 and then a high, high-quality section which is under glass and hosted by some subject matter experts.”

If reading isn’t your thing, there’s plenty of games, puzzles, CDs and DVD’s to keep you interested.

Angela loves the sense of community and that there’s something for everyone.

“It’s one of those beautiful experiences that you can meander and wander and there’s a café open with coffee and something to eat. We’ve got seating in and around the Bookfest so families can sit and decide on what they’re going to take or leave.”

The event is cashless, and it’s recommended that you bring your own bags along or you can buy a Lifeline bag for $1.00. Trolleys are also available so you can stock up with ease.
