Botanica is a contemporary pop up gallery that celebrates Australia’s leading artists and designers.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said Botanica has become one of the city’s most popular outdoor exhibitions captivating over 70,000 visitors last year.

“We are delighted to bring this exhibition to life in the beautiful surrounds of our City Botanic Gardens, offering a multi-sensory experience suitable for the whole family,” Cr Schrinner said.

“The event is free to the public and includes guided twilight walks, the popular children’s discovery trail, live artwork creation where you can contribute to an exhibit, interactive workshops and talks. As well as delicious food trucks and an outdoor bar on Friday to Sunday evenings”.

Botanica Producer, Bella Ford, caught up with 96five’s Steff Willis about how there’s something for everyone at Botanica this year.

“From participatory installations where you and your family can create something that will become part of the growing artwork to discovering new artists and being delighted by the beautiful concepts that the artists are choosing to explore this year” said Ms Ford.

Bella is excited for visitors to experience and participate in Neon Garden.

“The Queensland Spinners Weavers & Fibre Artists are a community of artists and artisans who have collectively transformed one of the smaller gardens into a glowing fungi garden”.

It’s rare opportunity to explore the gardens at night while checking out contemporary artists from here in Queensland and around Australia.

“You’re in this beautiful natural landscape and surrounded by this urban skyline – it’s a really unique place to be. I think the artists have really welcomed that opportunity to talk to the relationship between built and natural environment and explore the histories and layered meanings of the City Botanic Gardens.”

Botanica – Contemporary Art Outside runs from 5pm-10pm daily at the Brisbane Botanica Gardens. Plan your visit with Brisbane City Council.
